300 miles in 3 days for Haiti
I had already planned this bike trip up the coast to get in some miles for the USA Triathlon team competition, (see http://race-tracker.net/usat) but with the recent devastation in Haiti after the 7.0 earthquake, I’m using the ride to raise money for the Haiti earthquake relief effort.
300 miles in three days, no problem. Rebuilding one of the poorest countries in the world after a natural disaster? That’s another story.

John, this is such a great idea. I contributed this morning and feel good about it. Really neat to see how much you are riding. No wonder you haven’t asked me to ride with you! My paltry “long rides” of 40 miles are barely a warmup for you. But, would still like to hook up for a ride and keep in touch with you. So, when you get back from your journey, email me and lets at least do a 40-50 miler together. Best, Gerry
Hi! I just read an article about this in the USA Triathlon magazine (Spring 2010). I just returned from a trip to Haiti and am passionate about education on Haiti’s history. If anyone wants to learn more, I recommend “Damming the Flood: Haiti, Aristide, and the Politics of Containment”. It’s an extremely insightful book and does a lot to explain why a country like Haiti that could be a tropical paradise is instead the poorest country in the Western Hempishere.
