ITU Triathlon – Race #1 Sydney Australia – Pre Race Day

This morning was pretty much getting ready for the 8 am swim practice with the athletes that wanted to preview the swim course for tomorrow’s triathlon. The ITU race format is a little different that most triathlons that age-group triathletes may be familiar with. The swim usually starts from a pontoon and is a mass start swim with 2 loops that require the triathletes to exit the water, run along the pontoon and then dive back into the water. Each athlete has a specific spot/slot on the pontoon for their start and is based on a pre-determined order.

Tomorrow’s swim portion of the race occurs in the shadow of the Sydney Opera House, and is similar to the same swim course for the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics.
